Henry Buckton
As well as writing songs, many in the scrumpy and western genre, Henry Buckton is a best selling social historian, although he has also written plays, film, and stories for children. He studied at the Somerset College of Arts, and his literary career began in 1985 with the broadcast of his first story on BBC Radio Bristol. Since then he has written several more children’s stories for radio broadcast. Between 2000 and 2003, he compiled, edited and published four books of celebrity childhood memories under contract to the BBC Children In Need Appeal, in order to raise money and awareness for disadvantaged children. These books included hundreds of original stories written especially for the project by well-known people, such as Emma Bunton, Jeremy Irons, Judi Dench, Nigel Havers, and Annie Lennox. Henry’s social histories include ‘Yesterday’s Country Village,’ which examines every aspect of rural life as it used to be. This book reached the No 1 spot in the WH Smith bestsellers list in their British and Irish History section.
